Lord of the Jungle Story Line
Scene 1-
The ocean is alive with sea life. Fish, dolphins, Turtles (other aquatic life shark) they are frolicking about in their happy little sea lives. Waves froth around the hull of the boat that carries young Tarzan and his parents to the new island life they’re going to.
All of a sudden, a storm blows in from the sea. The waves roll and the aquatic life flow with it, while trying to avoid the ship as it rocks in the ocean. The storm carries on as the sea life and the family struggle to maintain their composure throughout.
Tarzan’s parents do not survive but they managed to save their son’s life. Tarzan is afraid, but his curiosity wins out and he explores the beach and nearby area. He sees beautiful butterflies, birds and Antelopes/Gazelles, but soon grows tired and takes a nap on the beach under a bush.
Scene 2-
Gorillas come out of the jungle that is off stage and onto the beach, where young Tarzan has washed up. (he coughs) as the gorillas investigate him. The mother gorilla (Saika Say-ka) steps forward and keeps the younger gorillas away from Tarzan who is starting to wake up. Tarzan is a curious boy (hence most of his upcoming adventures) so instead of being afraid of them he wanders toward them. Investigating them just as much as the younger ones are trying to figure him out. Saika decides she’s going to keep him, but then the bull, Orando, comes back. He is not happy with having Tarzan as part of the pack and wants them to leave him. Saiks pleads for Tarzan to stay with her. Orando, reluctantly agrees and the rest of the pack leaves them on the beach.
As everyone leaves Tarzan starts to panic, but Saika comforts him and she takes him with her to the nest.
Scene 3 – A few years later.
Tarzan has grown some; he’s no longer the small child that was left on the beach. Having been raised a bit by the apes, Tarzan still sometimes feels a bit different. He doesn’t understand why he’s different and so we occasionally see him imitating other animals that he encounters in the jungle.
Tarzan wakes up Saika by prowling like a leopard. He tries to sneak up and scare her, but just as he is about to growl, she grabs him as a surprise and they play. (Depending on the Saika character she may spin him around or they have just a little mini duet?) Tarzan’s best friend is going off with the other gorillas around their age to play. We see them trying to ditch Tarzan before they get to the watering hole where all the animals congregate.
In this misadventure, while Tarzan is swinging through the vines as he tries to keep up with his friends he encounters a python. The Python is aggravated to have been disrupted from his morning nap, and thinks to teach Tarzan a lesson of the Jungle. Tarzan outsmarts the Python and ends up getting past his delay in time to catch up with his friends at the watering hole.
Scene 4 – The watering hole
At the watering hole, elephants, gazelles, hippos, birds, lions(okay fine and the giraffes if you must) and the gorillas have gathered to drink. The younger gorillas convince Tarzan that he must steal a hair from an elephant lion. Tarzan approaches the elephants lions with all the grace and stealth of a stampede and frightens the elephants as a result. It sends them into a stampede; which disrupts the rest of the watering hole and could have become quite dangerous as the elephants are stomping about in the water and on land.
and manages to steal a hair from a lion. When the lion roars, it causes the antelopes/gazelles to stampede.
When the dust finally clears, we see that Tarzan has indeed captured the hair required of him. And the gorillas look at him in a new light. Yes he’s different, but he’s one of a kind.
Scene 5 – A few more years have passed and teenage Tarzan is growing into himself
Tarzan is out one night, prowling the Jungle as he’s want to do. As he rests in the trees, he hears a disturbance in the night. A cry. It’s a warning cry of a smaller monkey. Tarzan knows immediately that something is wrong. The pack of monkeys raises such a ruckus that Tarzan is determined to investigate. As he flies through the forest, he catches a glimpse of the predator stalking beneath the tree of monkeys. The leopard prowls on the ground beneath the lowest limb. It’s too high for him to climb so he just waits at the bottom.
The pack of monkeys flees from their tree, and the leopard follows them through the forest. One of the monkeys is smaller than the others. She is unable to keep up with her bigger counterparts and she begins to fall behind. Our predator sees this, and knows that it is only a matter of time before Nawala is too tired to continue. It is at that point that he will catch his prey. He enjoys the hunt and The Leopard plans to prolong it for as long as possible. Nawala’s fear is a tangible presence and Tarzan can feel it on his skin and smell it in the air as he pursues the pursuer from the air. Just as the Leopard is going to make the final pounce Tarzan swoops in to collect the terrified little monkey and save her from The Leopard. She clings to his back as Tarzan carries her away from a screaming, furious Leopard, and into safety of the trees. Nawala owes Tarzan her life, and decides she wants to stay in the protection of such a strong and courageous man.
Scene 6- Inland Village Camp- Tarzan all growed up…
Tarzan and Nawala make a formidable team. She chatters inanely, challenging one and all to from the very safe protection of behind Tarzan. While they are out one day passing through the Jungle, they encounter all of the friends they’ve made in the Jungle over the years. The elephants and the birds, the antelope, the giraffes, the other monkeys and of course Tarzan’s gorilla family. Saika has always been proud of her son, and while Orando appreciates what Tarzan does to keep the family safe, he does not consider Tarzan to be his son.
It is on this day that Tarzan, Nawala, the monkeys and some young gorillas, some of the antelopes/gazelles elephants and the birds happen upon a little camp that has been set up. Everything in the camp is bizarre to them. Clotheslines and tents, typewriters and cooking utensils. During this investigation, Tarzan and his friends discover the musical attributes of this particular camp (Karin doesn’t want to copy from Disney and wants to make the giraffes get caught up in the clothesline and the animals dance and play with the camp items instead of making noise with them but she’s thinking she’ll put noise in the music for this section and create hilarity with the dancing and misuse of camp gear. Also she wants the gorillas to be more regal and leave all the mischief to the monkeys instead but I think that some young gorillas should be with Tarzan and the monkeys to make the story more coherent)(I got the idea from Disney’s Tarzan movie. With rites you could use that or you could make your own collection of noises)Our characters aren’t quite sure what to make of them, but they soon realize they can make a lot of noise. They get carried away with the music they’re making and the dancing it inspires that they don’t realize the girl on safari has returned with her guides from a coastal village. Nawala realizes their games have been spotted and encourages everyone to flee to safety. Tarzan begins to leave, only to stop when he realizes that these creatures look like him. Nawala and the other gorillas finally have to drag him away to get him to leave the camp.
End of Act One
Act Two
Scene 7- Back at the Camp
Jade and her village guides come back from their tour of the Jungle to find that their camp has been ravaged by gorillas monkeys, a small monkey, an elephant giraffes, and…an ape-man? Her safari guides were much more interested in the animals, and none of them seem to have noticed the full-grown man that was with all the animals. Jade is trying to describe the man she thought she saw that was speaking to the monkeys. Her guides don’t believe her. For there is no such man that, can live amongst the great apes and survive.
Just then, Tarzan drops into the camp. He’s very interested in Jade’s person- invading her personal space- and she is trying not to be rude, but maintain a bit of her 2-foot radius of personal space. Tarzan takes his hand to hers and matches their fingers–the same thing that Saika had done to him when he had problems with being different. Tarzan and Jade are the same, he realizes. Her heart beats just as his does. With that discovery, Tarzan disappears into the forest to confront his mother.
Scene 8 – The Gorilla nest
Saika and Orando have heard of the strange men that the young people found during their camp excursion. As the bull ape and leader of the family, Orando was concerned about the safety of his family. They were not to let the men see them, nor were they to seek out the camp again. Tarzan comes barreling into the nest at the end of Orando’s decrees. He is absolutely furious. Why didn’t they tell him there were creatures that looked like him? Where did he come from? Saika takes Tarzan away from the rest of the nest, as his mother it is her responsibility. She tries to tell him that he made his own way in the Jungle. He was different because he had to make his own way, find his own purpose in the Jungle system.
Scene 9- The village.
The safari guides that were leading Jade through the Jungle, take word back to their coastal village. In honor of their return and before they went back out to join the Kali Bwana, the villagers had a huge party with a feast and dancing. During their fiesta they told the rest of the village that they have seen a man that lives amongst the Great Apes. They call him Tarzan. Tarzan of the Apes.
Little do the villagers know that outside their fortified walls, the Leopard stalks. He still holds a grudge against Tarzan for stealing his prey all those years ago. And Leopard will have his revenge.
Scene 10- Confrontation
The new pack of guides led Leopard right to their inland camp. He didn’t even have to track them to follow the scent of man. Leopard will wait until the men are distracted before he attacks the camp looking for Tarzan.
The guides return from their brief break to find Tarzan and Jade together. The guides are most interested in Tarzan of the Apes, much to his dismay. He escapes to the trees while the villagers and Jade are distracted by food and their reunion.
As he is on his way back to the nest, he catches a brief scent of Leopard. And he’s headed back in the direction of Jade’s camp. Tarzan thinks it is an old trail and is going to ignore it when he hears a scream. He knows instinctively that it’s Jade, and he must return to her.
Tarzan races onto the scene of Jade defenseless behind her village guides and their pitiful weapons against a strong predator. As Tarzan enters, Leopard catches his scent and knows his true prey has arrived. Leopard turns to attack Tarzan, but Tarzan is always prepared. Orando and the other apes heard the Leopard’s screams and race towards the sound. The Leopard is never welcome near the nest, and they want to make sure the young gorillas are safe.
Tarzan fights the Leopard to protect his family with an audience of his entire nest, the village guides, and Jade. They battle and the suspense is overwhelming. Tarzan wins. Obviously.
Scene 11- Finale
As word travels of Tarzan’s defeat of the Leopard, all come to pay their respect to the greatest predator in the Jungle. Nwala is nothing more than delusional with her ideas of personal grandeur. To hear her tell it, she personally fought the Leopard, when in reality she could spit nothing but insults and taunts from high in the trees during the fight. Tarzan declines the opportunity to remove to the coastal villages with the guides. Tarzan is of the Jungle and must stay where he is needed. The guides have returned to the village and told the story of Tarzan’s success, and his infamy among the coastal villages grows. Tarzan is the topic of moral stories, legends and her safari…indefinitely. myths that grow along his personal adventures. And Jade decides to extend her safari…indefinitely.

Theater Etiquette
Theater Etiquette Agreement
The following arts innovation movement: aim cincinnati Theater Etiquette agreement will ensure that all rehearsals run smoothly. Please read this carefully and retain this agreement for future reference.
- All forms must be completed at your audition. This includes the audition form and Dancer Contract.
- All fees must be paid, volunteer or scholarship arrangements made, by the deadline.
- Cast members are expected to attend all rehearsals that are scheduled for their character(s).
- The general schedule is presented at audition time and all conflicts must be listed thoroughly on the audition form. This production involves a great number of people, and future conflicts, except for emergencies, may not be accommodated.
- A full rehearsal and performance schedule will be given out at the first rehearsal. Every effort will be made to follow the rehearsal and performance schedule as presented to you. However, emergencies do arise and adjustments may need to
occur because of them.
- No unexcused absences are allowed, with the exception of emergencies and those absences approved by the Producing Artistic Director at the start of the production. Your role may be re-cast if you are absent without notice. If an emergency does occur, call Ms. Marvel (513.608.6961)/ studio (513.841.2822) immediately.
- Each dancer must be available to attend all Tech Week rehearsals and Performances in which they are scheduled to perform.
- Cast members are expected to arrive at all rehearsals and performance calls on time. Tardiness causes delays and is unfair to others. If you arrive early, please enter and wait quietly. Excessive tardiness will result in assignment to clean the studio after rehearsal.
- When committing to a role, cast members should understand that they will need to memorize all of their movements, entrances and exits, and learn all dances. They should make time at home to do this. Parents/adults should be willing to help them with this important task.
- You are expected to treat all rehearsal spaces with respect and keep them clean. Remember the designated place to eat is the large table on the 2nd floor. Please do not eat or drink anything other than plain water in any studio or dressing room.
- Please be prepared with some quiet activity that does not disrupt the ongoing rehearsal or your fellow dancers in the event that you have a bit of free time during rehearsals.
- Valuable items should be left at home.
- An adult must know where you are at all times. Please do not leave without telling one of the staff and or designated assistants.
- When dropping off children for rehearsal, parents or responsible adults are asked to come inside the building at the top left door to sign in children under the age of 12 years old, confirm dismissal time and pick up any announcements.
- At dismissal time, parents or responsible adults are asked to come to the main entrance of the rehearsal space to pick-up their child(ren). aim cincinnati maintains a list for each production of those participants who are allowed to leave on their own – please notify the Producing Artistic Director or designated assistant at the start of the production if your child will be arriving and/or departing from rehearsal unaccompanied by an adult.
Participation Policy and Behavioral Standards
We are thrilled to have your family participate in aim cincinnati productions. Our policy has always been to provide a fun, safe, inclusive and supportive environment for dancers and families to enjoy the challenges and delight of live theater.
In order to provide this environment to all of the dancers and families involved, we have established the Theater Etiquette policy, and have supplemented it with this agreement about expectations for behavior. Any participant that behaves in a manner that is inconsistent with these expectations will be spoken to immediately by a parent volunteer, producer / choreographer or director. If no change of behavior is evident, the participant’s parent or responsible adult will be notified. If necessary, the dancer’s role will be recast.
Please read through this participation policy and behavioral standards thoroughly and sign where indicated below.
- RESPECT FOR EACH OTHER–Our dance community depends on mutual respect. Child participants and adults need to respect the authority of the directors, choreographers, musical directors, volunteer parents, and coordinators. Defiance, verbal abuse, foul language, or any disrespect has no place in our organization. Bad attitudes, gossip, mocking and other forms of disrespect have no place in our organization. No cell phones during rehearsal. That means no phone calls or text messages while you are in rehearsal.
- RESPECT FOR OUR PROPERTY- aim cincinnati has invested a great deal in costumes, sets and props for productions and performances. Do not eat or drink anything other than plain water while in costume. Hang up costumes and return costumes and props to the appropriate place after you have used them.
- RESPECT FOR OUR SPACE-All of the dancers and adults participating need to respect their physical surroundings, keep the spaces clean, and help out when asked by the staff and volunteers in charge of the productions. Graffiti, litter, and
general mess will not be tolerated. Any dancer defacing any property related to
any aim cincinnati production, workshop, party or any other event will
be held responsible, along with their parent or responsible adult.
- FOLLOWING DIRECTION –The artistic team of our productions and performances need full participation and attention from every dancer. Rehearsal time is limited and needs to be used efficiently, with dancers participating fully. The artistic staff expects the dancers to study their choreography, learn their order of the show, and know their part. Dancers who cannot follow direction will be spoken to, and their parent will be notified in the event that this behavior is compromising the program as a whole.
- BEING PREPARED –Being on time, dressed appropriately, and ready for rehearsal benefits the whole team. Dancers are expected to notify the studio in advance in the event of absences. Dancers are expected to have access to the schedule of rehearsals and a means of knowing of any changes. Most communication for large productions is done by email. Any family without access to email should notify the Executive Director, and an ‘email buddy’ will be assigned to share all communications in a timely manner.
- SAFETY –aim cincinnati strives to provide a safe environment for all participants. All rehearsals and performances are monitored by responsible adult volunteers. Each participant is expected to behave in a safe and responsible manner that demonstrates respect for themselves and respect for others. Any activity that is deemed unsafe or potentially hazardous will be reported to
the producer, director, parent volunteer, or choreographer. Serious or repetitive
unsafe activity will result in the dismissal of the participant from the performance
and or production. Possession of any hazardous item will result in immediate
dismissal of the participant and notification of their parent or guardian.
- SPECIAL NEEDS OR CONCERNS –aim cincinnati is an inclusive organization, with cast members of many ages and backgrounds. Parents need to notify aim cincinnati of any special needs and concerns, particularly related to learning issues, behavioral issues, medication, and allergies, so that all of the dancers involved in any production or workshop can be made to feel at home, and all of the dancers can be safe and protected. If for any reason, aim cincinnati producers, directors, parent volunteers, or choreographers, believe that participation with aim cincinnati is not in the best interest of the dancer or the production as a whole, the parent or responsible adult will be consulted. aim cincinnati reserves the right to limit the involvement of any participant who cannot reasonably comply with these behavioral standards.
.
Theater Etiquette Agreement
- BE ON TIME. On time in the theatre and dance world means being there 15 minutes before the scheduled time, in appropriate attire to dance. If you will not be on time for any reason, it is your responsibility to call the studio or stage manager to let them know. Lateness will not be tolerated. More than 2 late arrivals will result in assignment to clean the studio after rehearsal.
- ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY. You are expected to be at all rehearsals to which you are called. You are to submit all conflicts by the end of the meeting on July 18. More than two unexcused absences may result in recasting.
- ACCEPT NOTES FROM DIRECTORS. When given notes from choreographers/directors, the correct response is “thank you.” You are not to argue or make excuses. Accept the note politely, and if you have further questions, wait until the note session is over and approach the choreographers/directors for further clarification.
- YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN DANCES. Once the choreographer/director has taught the dance, you are responsible for remembering the routine. If you forget something or need to review, you are to seek out your rehearsal assistant or dance captain. These people will help review the dances when the choreographers are busy working on other pieces. Bring a notebook to make notes about your choreography.
- TREAT ALL STAFF WITH RESPECT. You are to treat all members of the production team with respect. That means everyone from your dance captains, costumers, choreographers, and cast mates. Any behavior or comments that are not respectful will be dealt with accordingly.
- RESPECT OUR PROPERTY. Do not eat or drink anything other than plain water while in costume. Hang up costumes and return costumes and props to the appropriate place. Treat all rehearsal spaces with respect and keep them clean. Remember the designated place to eat is the balcony area with black and white tile floor. Please do not eat or drink anything other than plain water in any studio or dressing room
Please sign below and return this page (only) to the producer at the time of your audition or first rehearsal meeting. Keep your copy of the Theater Etiquette Agreement and the Participation Policy and Behavioral Standards for future reference. Thank you in advance for your cooperation!
